Come Rain or Shine - By Gulfraz Riaz

It is safe to say that a fair amount of the work that we do at the National Asian Cricket Council (NACC) is based around being an advisory body for a number of key cricketing stakeholders in England and Wales and as much as our work is at times intense and focused on so many challenging issues affecting the South Asian Cricketing Community, we certainly look forward to our summer of representative cricket fixtures for both our men's and ladies' teams, with the absolute highlight this year being the invitation to play on the main ground at Lord's against the MCC.

The NACC was honoured to be given the privilege of playing the MCC Secretarial game on the main ground at Lord’s this year. Our journey of true engagement with the MCC started in 2018 after an initial meeting with Guy Lavender, discussing the many ways we could work closer and truly bring the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and understanding with the wider South Asian Cricketing Community Nationally. We soon agreed on playing games around the Country in places like Luton, Crawley, Batley, Birmingham, Leicester, Cardiff, North & East London, Manchester and Slough. Having been present at almost all of the games I know how much the South Asian Cricketing Community welcomed and appreciated the wonderfully competitive cricket but also the strengthening of ties between two significant members of the cricketing family on and off the pitch. We are also incredibly grateful to John Stephenson for this opportunity and one that the players, officials and the NACC as a whole will remember as an incredibly special moment. Despite the rain making sure that we did not get on the hallowed turf at Lord's, the players and officials and the many spectators certainly still had a wonderful day and we look forward to being back at Lord's very soon.

Despite the rain we have managed to play a few games against the British Police CC team at Newtown Linford CC, as well as a few out games against the MCC at Crouch End CC and between the MCC ladies & NACC ladies at Highgate CC. We still have a number of games to look forward to against the MCC to be played around England & Wales as well as a fixture against the Free Foresters CC. Let's hope the rain stays away.
